By Flossie Gibbs

Pool party games for kids are a great way for them to enjoy the warm weather and get some exercise with their friends. Planning various games in advance can help you keep everyone busy and minimize the chance that someone might get bored.

Because everyone loves to win a prize, you might want to consider going to a discount store and pick up a few prizes for the winners of the game. It is also a good idea to have little trinkets for everyone who attends your event. Water related prizes are a great idea to go with the theme of the day. Things such as water noodles, water balloons, beach balls, and swimming masks are often a big hit.

Children's ages will play a role in the activities that you choose however, there are some activities that are quite popular a frequently used in these events. Most children enjoy the opportunity to dive under the water for a hidden treasure. To play this game, you would simply divide your guests into a couple of teams and have them collect as many treasures as possible as quickly as they can. The team with the most treasures when the time is up is the winner.

Racing rubber duckies is a lot of fun, easy activity for most children. All you need to do to get started is mark some rubber ducks so they all look different and then have each child swim from one side of your pool to the other with the duck. The trick to the game is that they can only use their nose to make the duck move. The first one to get their duck to the other side wins.

There are a lot of great floating games now available. Basketball, golf and tennis are among the many options now available to choose from nowadays. These activities would follow the same rules used on land.

Ice cube races can be a blast for swimmers. To get things started, simply throw some ice cubes in with the children. Split the children into teams and have them pick up ice cubes with only their feet. In the end, the team that got the most ice cubes out wins.

Water relays can be a lot of fun. Divide the children into teams and pick an item of your choice to have them race back and forth through the water. The first team to get to the finish line first wins. You can use any number of items for the race, a lot of people like to push watermelons, water noodles or beach balls but, the choices are endless, just use your imagination.

Always ensure that when you are planning pool party games for kids that you calculate how many children will be present and that you have enough adults to help you watch everyone that is there. It is a good idea to have an adult designated to stand on each corner around the pool to ensure that all the children can be seen at all times. It is also a good idea to limit the number of people in the water if you have a large crowd, having the water over crowded can make it difficult to keep track of everyone.
