Way Back The History Of Professional Wrestling

By Imelda Reid

Humans are really vulnerable beings. Each person has different gifts and abilities. If they differ to superiority, desirability, and attractiveness, there always lie a purpose which makes everything equal. But even with this, humans always have this weak point. And that is to aspire for something greater than what they have. That is why in the society where humans live, this fact is very evident.

But then there are various areas which humans can aspire for. One could clamor for prestige, beauty, fame, and wealth. But at one point, all of these lead to only one goal, which is superiority or power. Actually, such is also the concept behind the sport of wrestling. Even before the history of professional wrestling took place, the idea of superiority in this endeavor is evident.

When you say wrestling, you will see a very heated fight which showcases the physical power of each contender. As per the nature of the competition, there is no room for giving way. Each of the contestants really need to fight with all their might. Not to mention, the goal of the sport is to show who among the two is stronger and more powerful.

With this, you would already be able to make out what scene will take place on the stage. Basically, there would really be a heated competition. So if you are a type of person who is magnanimous, this kind of scene is not fit for you. You have to be tough like the Romans from the time before who liked seeing torture scenes in the arena.

For the modern world, where things like that, have been diminished, this is already quite uncomfortable to look at. But then the only good thing about this is that there are no weapons used, only physical strength. Like the hero in the English folk tale Beowulf, the contenders will just have to make use of your bare hands and body to defeat their opponent.

It is actually just a portrayal of how normal people fight. But you can say, that the move applied by the players is in the level of intense hatred. You will see them using all sorts of grappling techniques such as pinning, clinching, throwing, take downs, and other kinds of holds and styles which they can use to take down their opponent.

Speaking of this, there is actually a range of styles which bear different rules. Each of these styles has been taken from both modern and historic influences. Given this, some of the styles which wrestling bears were taken into the martial arts and military fighting style since it is basically the most intuitive defense of humans.

The origin of this sport has even been referenced in literary endeavor by Homer. In the Iliad, which has been referenced to have happened in as early as the thirteenth or twelfth century, the happenings during the Trojan War was recounted. Not only that, it has been said that this endeavor existed fifteen thousand years ago through the drawings in a cave.

During that time span, it has continuously developed and spread as well. And in the twentieth century, it has already become a professional sport showcasing two styles which are Greco Roman and freestyle. So from being a mere folk sport, it is now a popular entertainment just like other sports.
