Book A Pleasure Trail Ride At One Of The Horse Riding Academies Stockton Ca Is Home To

By Tanisha Berg

A horse is a beautiful animal. It can be one of many different breeds. Its color can range from white to chestnut to black. You may be interested in taking lessons at one of the horse riding academies stockton ca is known for.

The pleasure ride lasting for an hour is the way most people are introduced to riding. There are so many more ways to enjoy being part of this world. Feeding, brushing and knowing how to approach a horse without startling him are important.

You can learn all this and more at one of the academies in the area. Brushing the horse, saddling and bridling him before riding are all skills to learn. Keep all dust and dirt from his back to avoid saddle sores.

You do the grooming and saddling with the horses halter on and change to the bridle just before riding. When you approach a horse from behind, make a sound so he knows you are there. This avoids startling the animal.

After the saddle blanket is on, the saddle pad goes on over that. It is shaped like a saddle and is of some quilted or padded material to make the saddle fit comfortably. The saddle is set on top of the pad.

There is a cinch strap that goes under the belly and attaches to the left side of the saddle. It should be tightened until snug, but not too tight. You should be able to slip two fingers between the cinch strap and the horses belly.

Then you will adjust the length of the stirrups. They must be short enough to allow you to stand in them and support your weight above the saddle seat. Before mounting, check the cinch strap a final time.

Next the bridle comes on. Place the bit gently into the mouth and slip the straps into place behind the ears. Then take off the halter. You are not ready to ride.

Your instructor may take you to an enclosed area to learn. You are instructed to mount from the left side of the animal. Place your left foot into the left stirrup. Then swing your right leg up and over the horses back and sit in the saddle. Place your right foot in the right stirrup.

If riding Western style, hold the reins in your left hand. You can stop by saying whoa and pulling back on the reins. A slight pressure will give the signal to stop. Move the reins to the right to turn to the right and left to turn left.

When you take lessons at the riding academy, it may be a series of private lessons or you may be taught in a group. You may be asked to dismount, take the reins over the horses head and tie him to a hitching post. You will learn to tie a slip knot that can be released fast.

When your first lesson ends you will realize how much there is to learn about horses and riding. Unsaddling the horse and exchanging the bridle for the halter concludes the lesson. You may take time to pet and talk to your mount before leaving.
