Are You Inadvertently Sabotaging Your Diet Plan?

By Frederick Smith

Everybody knows that the best foods we can eat are whole grains, lean meats in addition to healthy fats. These are the ingredients that will give us the energy and protein we need. They keep our bodies balanced nutritionally but don't stuff us full of empty calories that may later need to be burned off at the gym. Did you already know, though, that some of the foods you are eating that are supposed to be perfectly acceptable by dietary standards, could be keeping you from losing weight at a good pace? They could possibly be even adding unhealthy calories to your body! Check out a few of the food items that might be allowing you to accidentally sabotage your diet.

You are not really helped by Sports Drinks. You've possibly been thinking that the sports drink is the best way to help your system feel better after a workout. Many doctors agree, nevertheless, that if your workout is under ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks are packed with sugar and calories and a large amount of other things you don't need such as artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Try sipping some chocolate milk instead. The sugar within the chocolate will help your muscles start to mend and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Protein Shakes aren't a person's friend. Lots of individuals are convinced drinking a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. The truth of the matter is that if you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake really does is overburden your system with protein. Contrary to popular belief, protein doesn't get saved as muscle, it gets stored as fat. If you've already consumed your daily allotment of protein that day, your whole body will just save the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't allow you to drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't really nutritious at all. You likely are convinced a sandwich that is produced from pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has far too many preservatives plus sodium (one serving contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This might be especially problematic if you are prone to heart disease. Rather than buying pre-packaged deli meat, pick some home cooked chicken or the deli meats that is freshly sliced at your deli counter. Yes you'll shell out more money for these choices but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a massive amount things that we imagine will help us shed weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask your doctor which items are the best to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are careful about what you eat and therefore are good to your body, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
